Adria Meserve is an established talent in picture books. Smog the City Dog was her first book, and she has recently had her 12th project published to great aclaim: The Comedy, History & Tragedy of William Shakespeare. Adria gained a BA in the History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London and went on to qualify as a senior school Art teacher at Middlesex University. As well as writing and illustrating picture books, she runs creative workshops in schools. Adria also gained her MA in Illustration from Brighton University.

I love it when I find the style for each project – the hours of research and preparation are paid back when the artwork starts to flow!

Adria Meserve grew up in New England, USA and has always loved books. She moved to North Yorkshire at the age of twelve. After studying art history at the Courtauld Institute, she travelled to India. Inspired by the wonderful and strange things she saw there, she realized she wanted to draw and paint for a living. She worked in an art gallery and then as an art teacher, and began to write and illustrate books. She enjoys working with a variety of media, and loves researching costume / architecture / history to create new styles.
